Judge John Bowman
For the past decade, Judge John Bowman has served in the State of Florida’s Circuit Court Juvenile Civil and Dependency divisions, where he and presently serves in the Circuit Civil Division, has affected a wide range of changes to benefit the children under his jurisdiction. During his tenure, Judge John Bowman has called for greater oversight of residential treatment facilities that provide mental health services after reports of abuse, calling for thorough reviews of these facilities and the implementation of stricter safety guidelines.
Judge John Bowman has also worked to make the judicial process more efficient. At present, children remain in the system for less than six months after the end of parental guardianship. He also quickly reduced the number of children without stable homes from 150 to 5 after taking the bench. Additionally, Judge Bowman established a uniform motion calendar, a technological innovation that allows tracking of cases involving the same family across multiple divisions. Previously, families could have multiple cases based on the same issue in different divisions, and judges would have no knowledge of the other proceedings.
Judge Bowman has been the judicial Representative in 2009 for the Broward county Bar Association, and was elected President of the Stephen R. Booher American Inn of Court for 2014-2015.
Judge John Bowman studied at Florida Atlantic University where he earned his bachelors of public administration as a Phi Theta Kappa scholar. Subsequently, he matriculated at St. Thomas University where he earned recognition on the dean’s list, served on the moot court team, and graduated with a juris doctor. Outside of his professional duties, Judge John Bowman serves on the Department of Juvenile Justice advisory board and acts as judicial liaison for the Broward County Bar Association. Recreationally, he enjoys spending time outside boating and learning about the environment.
